If you’re an avid reader of The Bald Gent, then you may have noticed that there’s a lot of in depth style guides for fashion-conscious bald men.
Being bald doesn’t have to limit what you do, how you feel and definitely not what you wear. In previous posts, we’ve discussed different beard styles for bald men, the importance of sun protection for bald men and even if bald men should get tattoo’s.
As you will see from our first celebrity, sometimes being bald isn’t a case of losing the genetic lottery but more about making a fashion statement.
One thing that we haven’t really focused on and is something which I often get asked about is accessories bald men should wear, more specifically wristwatches.
Should bald men wear watches? Which ones should they wear? Are there different styles that suit bald men more than others?
I thought to debunk these questions, we would take a look at some famous bald celebrities and see which watches they are wearing, the different styles and the ways that they wear the watches too.
This way you can choose which celebrity you feel fits your personal style most and therefore see which watch would probably be a good fit for yourself.
First up, he’s got biceps that look like three biceps stuck together and a huge kind smile, you’ve probably seen something with him either wrestling under the name “The Rock“, acting in films such as Jumanji or G.I Joe or in animated films such as Moana.
This American producer, actor and semi-retired professional wrestler has achieved huge feats during his career. Dwayne Douglas Johnson isn’t actually bald because of genetic predisposition, instead, he made the choice to go bald in 2010.
Dwayne has a very strong style that is very popular amongst bodybuilders and bigger built men out there so if you can relate then definitely take a look at the three watches we have caught him in over the years as they could suite you too.
Dwayne Johnson was caught wearing this Hamilton Khaki Navy BELOWZERO Auto 2826 H78585333 in Central Intelligence which was released in 2016.
This ‘bold‘ (excuse the pun) all black watch is a must have for all adventurers of the deep blue due to its incredible water resistance of 1000 metres as well as fans of larger faced watches due to its 46mm case width. We often find that larger faced watches are more popular with men with a bigger build as the watch is more appropriately sized to their body shape and wrist.
Black is a colour that really suites bald men and is often featured on our Fashion tab on our website so a watch as black as this one really stands out and helps you make a personal style statement.
A little bit more about the watch in case you’re interested; its powered by an Swiss Made Automatic movement and features a date display at the three o’clock position. The glass is a premium scratch resistant sapphire crystal which is the best watch glass currently available. The strap is made from a black silicone rubber and the case is a black PVD plated 316L stainless steel.
A good spot from one of our staff members Dan was Dwayne Johnson playing Luke Hobbs In Fast & Furious 6 where he wears an Oris ProDiver Date watch.
The Rock’s style in this film is more of a military look with a lot of black and NATO style outfits which suite this watch perfectly.
Black seems to be a theme for Dwayne Johnson when it comes to his choice in clothes and wristwatches and is a colour / style that we would recommend for the more filled out gentleman.
Oris is very much a luxury Swiss brand that adds style and sophistication to any wearer, this specific watch is made from a multi-piece light weight titanium and rubber ceramic minutes scale top ring around the bezel. It is 49mm from side to side so again is a large watch on your wrist meaning a bigger stronger look.
Brand & Watch: Breitling Transocean Chronograph Unitime Film: HBO Tv series Ballers
This one was a very hard spot as Dwayne Johnson wears a lot of suits in this HBO TV series as well as a number of watches but the one we liked the most was this Breitling Transocean Chronograph Unitime which features first in Episode 2 of Season 1 of the HBO TV series Ballers. It has also been featured in a few more episodes which helped us confirm our suspicions.
The Breitling Transocean Chronograph Unitime is available in a range of different colours however we liked the style switch of this one compared to the other two we found as its more of a dress watch that works perfectly with almost any suit.
A luxury rose gold and brown alligator style genuine leather strap is quite a professional style to pull off however it works really well with bald men and examples of this can be seen not only with the Rock but also with other bald celebrities out there such as Ed Harris, Andre Agassi and even Patrick Stewart all being frequent wearers of Rose gold timepieces with a brown leather strap.
Having looked at three watches for men of a bigger stature and build, kindly styled by Dwayne Johnson it seems like a bigger faced black watch is a good style to go with if you are looking for a casual timepiece to wear as your everyday watch and a rose gold watch with a brown leather strap is a great go to when looking for a dress watch for a business meeting or for a special date with a lady you’re looking to impress.
Both of these styles work for bald men and we would love for you to send us any watches in these styles that you currently wear or purchase after reading this article so post them on our social media or email them to us.
Second up in our list is an actor that has worked closely with Dwayne Johnson in ‘Ballers’ and has been in an impressive roster of films and Tv shows such as Hot Tub Time Machine 2, Children’s Hospital and Warm Bodies. He often plays an average family man with a range of different clothing styles ranging from suits to joggers and a t-shirt.
The American actor has featured in over 95 listed films and Tv shows mostly playing a semi-serious or comedic role.
There is quite a bit of talk about Rob and Dwayne’s relationship in Ballers and more specifically a joke that the writers tried to put in about how Dwayne Johnson was not ashamed of it because he’s got a clean head.
This was quickly shot down by Rob due to the previously mentioned choice to go bald that Dwayne made whereas Rob has male pattern hair loss and chooses to show off his pattern instead. This was covered in a list of questions Esquire magazine did in an interview with Rob, you can read that here.
In Ballers Rob Corddry plays Joe Krutel, a financial manager at Anderson Financial Management and protagonist who tries hard to fit in the sports world.
We captured him wearing a Hamilton Men’s Khaki X Wind which is a strong watch for both outdoors and as a dress watch. The khaki style and tan leather strap hints at a more playful, rugged and almost military look, ready to take any challenge you throw its way and the detailed face with black background helps all the featured and indices to stand out to ensure it is not only rough and ready but also serious and stylish.
The X Wind is powered by a Swiss made Automatic movement and boasts features such as a day & date display, chronograph, 60-hour power reserve and even a drift angle calculator.
The combination of tan, black and silver work really well with a range of outfits styled towards bald men such as leather jackets, black or dark grey suits and even blue shirt and chinos.
Unfortunately, this is the only watch we could find that he has worn during his career however we thought it necessary to feature him due to his links with Dwayne and also being bald. His style is a nice addition to this guide too and definitely something we wanted to feature.
Our third choice is a British actor known worldwide for his roles in the Guy Ritchie crime films as well as American films The Italian Job, Transporter and The Bank Job. I’m sure you’ve probably guessed who it is by now as he’s a big star in the movie industry and let’s be honest guys everyone’s seen at least one of the Guy Ritchie films.
Jason Statham is an individual who doesn’t take breaks and has accomplished an incredible amount of things in a very short amount of time.
Not only is he first and foremost an actor but he was also an accomplished fashion model and a British National Diver who as part of their team finished 12th in the World Championships in 1992.
Brand & Watch: IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 Product Code: IW358002 Film: Mechanic: Resurrection
In the film Mechanic: Resurrection Jason Statham
plays a character called Bishop who had a rather murderous past which he thought he had put behind him, that is until someone kidnaps the love of his life.
Jason Statham can be seen wearing an IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 IW358002 watch in various scenes throughout the film.
This divers wristwatch features a black silicone strap and lightweight titanium case that is 46mm from edge to edge. The watches luminous hands and indices are green and there is also a date window at the three o’clock position. The Aquatimer Automatic 2000 is powered by a self- winding mechanical movement and has an impressive 44-Hour Power Reserve.
As with most professional divers outfits, the strap is available in an XXL variant, this is so that divers can wear the watch over their equipment and from what we saw it looks like this is how Jason Statham wears it over his combat fighting outfit.
Like most of the other watches in this guide, it is mostly black and we seem to be noticing a trend in the watches that bald celebrities wear however this may just be a coincidence.
Brand & Watch: Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa Product Code: RM 001 Film: Mechanic: Parker
Jason Statham plays a character called Parker in the 2003 film Parker. It can been seen in a number of scenes however it is quite hard to distinguish exactly which model it is. We got our expert watch spotters on the job and they have confirmed our suspicions that it is the Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa model.
The watch its self is incredible and a lot of work has gone into designing and manufacturing something of such high quality. Each case involves 202 separate machining operations and takes over 180 hours to implement. They have used analytical engineering methods used in the design of Formula 1 racing cars specifically in making sure the parts designed for the engine and chassis work in harmony.
The watch itself has a silver titanium case with a number of stainless steel parts also, it is powered by a skeletonised automatic winding movement with adjustable rotor geometry. Other features of the watch include a chronograph, 60-minute countdown timer, 12-hour totalizer, a date and a month display.
The watch gets its name from the Brazilian Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa and retails at approximately £86,700.00 and even though it might seem a little overpriced for pretty much all of us its the style we are concentrating on. It again has the black silicone strap and bold stand out design to the case with black against silver.
Brand & Watch: TAG Heuer Monaco Automatic Chronograph Product Code: CAW2111.FC6183 Film: Mechanic: The Bank Job
The Bank Job stars Jason Statham who is wearing a TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph in a number of scenes, although this watch is available in available in a range of colourways Mr Statham chose to go with a blue leather strap to match the watch face to complete his vintage aesthetic.
Our watch team caught a glimpse of this throughout the movie however it was confirmed in one of the final scenes where Jason’s character Terry checks the time while waiting at a platform of Paddington Station.
This is the only blue watch in our guide, however, we thought it was one we had to add into this guide as there is always a keen interest in vintage style for the gentleman in all of us. Statham sports a black suit with a white shirt and black tie which he loosens just before the final fight scene that sees him almost arrested and then released.
The TAG Heuer Monaco was actually called the Heuer Monaco and was introduced by Heuer back in 1969 as a tribute to the Monaco Grand Prix.
When the Tag Heuer Monaco was a very innovative watch for its time as it was the first automatic watch and the first square cased chronograph. Steve McQueen also wore this same watch in the film Le Mans which was released in 1971.
Just like the other celebrities, the majority of the watches do seem to be black, bold and oversized however Jason Statham sports the very good looking TAG Heuer Monaco with his vintage look which is very easily adapted to a modern suit with minimal design changes. The blue watch and interesting square face design again make this watch a great statement style piece.
