Review: L’Oreal Men Expert Pure Power Blackhead Face Scrub

L’Oreal Men Expert Pure Power Blackhead Face Scrub

An unclogging scrub, powered by a high concentration of anti-bacterial Salicylic Acid, delivers 2000 exfoliating beads with every use to fight blackheads.

Features at a Glance

Its deep cleansing action washes away oil, dirt and dead cells to unclog pores and help protect against the appearance of future blackheads and spots.

It has a surprising texture which I will talk about later. Effective exfoliation with 3 types of beads of different sizes, yet designed to be gentle enough to use every day without over-drying.

Pros

  • The product does work well and seems to clean up the skin but you need to work with it
  • Surprisingly good texture and unlike some of the other exfoliating products you can actually feel the beads
  • Excellent value for money and a little goes a long way

Cons

There are not that many cons when it comes to the Pure Power range from L’Oreal for Men. The one thing I would say is that my skin, especially if oily, doesn’t feel as ‘squeaky’ clean as it does when using other face washes, the claims that it can be used as a daily wash face I’m not too sure – it is however quite gentle and effective.

My Opinion

I think it’s important to mix an exfoliating product into your daily cleansing route and this one is a good choice.

All men have the battle to keep their skin under control especially if you’ve got a bald (or balding) head, the last thing you want is a head full of spots or blackheads.

Exfoliating is a great way to try and keep breakouts under control and keep blackheads at bay.

L’Oreal tells us it’s been clinically tested under dermatological control and has been tested on spot-prone skin.

Coming from the trusted L’Oreal brand, this is one of their ever-expanding ‘Men Expert Pure Power’ ranges but this one is focused on removing and reducing blackheads which can lead to spots.

The first thing you notice is this exfoliating face wash is green in appearance, yes green.

The texture is similar to the charcoal face wash I have previously reviewed but it is noticeably different with the introduction of the scrub beads, you can actually see them.

There are supposedly 3 sizes of beads but to be honest I don’t usually have a microscope in the shower nor I’m I really that too concerned as long as it does the job.

L'Oreal Men Expert Pure Power Blackhead Face Scrub

Just like any other products I reviewed, I have either used it for a number of weeks/months/years or it’s already part of daily routine, this one I have been using for a couple of years now.

I know there are better products on the market but it does the job well and the price is right.

Yet again with this range, you don’t need to use much, a little goes a long way if you’re prepared to gently scrub your whole face and head.

When I say a little goes a long way, one thing to remember is that most bald guys tend to use more product that the head full of hair guy.

Why? Well, it’s pretty obvious, there’s more skin to wash/shave/moisturise/protect etc…

When you do come across a product that goes a long way, it’s a pleasant surprise.

L'Oreal Men Expert Pure Power Blackhead Face Scrub

Once you start to work with the wash, it does keep its consistency and it feels good on the skin.

As you gently rub the wash around you can feel the beads, scrub a little harder and you can get the scratching feeling like you’ve got sand in your wash.

This is not a bad thing, I personally like to feel that my skin has been ‘scrubbed’ when using an exfoliating product, what’s the point in using one if not?

After some time it does break up and become less effective, this is the time to wash is off, make sure you don’t forget those bits that get stuck in your ears.

L’Oreal says the wash is gentle enough to use every day, I have one issue with this and it’s not down to the beads.

Like I say, I have been using this wash for a number of years but I don’t use it on a daily basis.

Why? Well, it’s a great product but I don’t think it cleans my skin as much as let’s say the Charcoal face wash from my other review.

Don’t get me wrong, I have noticed a difference in the number of blackheads since using it and I always have one bottle somewhere in the bathroom, its just that I like my skin to feel ‘squeaky’ clean and I am left feeling a little like I need to ‘re-wash’ once I have used it.

However, it’s not a bad thing and it’s certainly not something that would stop me using it.

This is what L’Oreal says about the product

“Effective exfoliation with 3 type of beads of different sizes.

Proven intense cleansing action washes away oil and dirt to unclog pores and help protect against the appearance of future blackheads and spots.

The scrub, enriched with salicylic acid, releases exfoliating beads with every use to unclog pores.

Tested under dermotological control.”

Final thoughts

Another good product from L’Oreal Men Expert, Pure Power range, something I would recommend to anyone reading this.

The product is gentle yet effective at helping to reduce blackheads and spots, and you know coming from L’Oreal that it’s been tested thoroughly.

I have been impressed with the exfoliating results and I like the fact that you can feel it working, meaning you can feel those beads doing their job. Price is always a concern but at around £5 this really does take some beating.

My only issue is how clean my skin feels when I have used this product.

Maybe it’s just me but I always feel like it should be a little cleaner, I get the feeling it’s been exfoliated but not necessarily washed, if you know what I mean.

I like to feel like my skin has been cleared from all the oil build up over the day/night but using this I don’t always get that feeling.

I would still, however, keep using this scrub but not on a daily basis, I think it’s a good product to help fight blackheads and spots but not as my daily wash.
