Cons

I am struggling to find many, (if any), cons to using this product – now coming from me that’s quite a thing because I am somewhat critical due to a number of products I have tried over the years.

My only con at this moment in time would be the product is not readily available in the UK. Yes, you can buy it from their US shop but shipping costs are quite expensive and I know this will put some people off. Hopefully, with more awareness of this product in the UK, they will be able to find some UK distributors soon.

My Opinion

Well, I have been looking forward to trying this product for some time after reading several positive reviews about it and visiting their site on many occasions to gather more information. The brand has big claims about its Complete Face Care Lotion, from helping to reduce shine, evening the skin tone to help in fighting spots, reducing fine lines and age spots. Lots to consider when reviewing this product – let’s start with the basics.

There is a generous tube size of 4 FL OZ (124ml) for around $48 or £38. This, however, does make this one of the more expensive moisturisers I have reviewed so I was hoping for great results – sometimes the more expensive the worse they get, not in this case. On first use of the cream/lotion you notice that the cream has a good solid consistency, it’s not runny like some moisturisers or gels and it doesn’t start to break down if you leave it in your hand for too long.

I was impressed with how little you need, I made the mistake on first using this product of applying too much, I ended up looking like I’d tried to camouflage my face for hiding in the snow-covered mountains of Alaska! Note to anyone reading this – when you first rub the product into your head it seems like you’ve picked up sunscreen and over-applied it, don’t worry, the product soaks into your skin within seconds and your ghostly appearance will soon disappear.

Matte For Men Complete Face Care Lotion in Hand

Once applied I noticed that my skin looked slightly shinier than it did before I applied it, again don’t worry this also wears off after a few more seconds and ultimately you end up with an even matte tone to your skin without looking like you’ve applied some plastic film to your face.

So what about the claims for skin tone, fine lines, spot reduction, anti-shine and UV protection? Well, to be honest, all of them seem to be true.

I’m actually quite surprised by not only the shine control of this product but all the other claims. Don’t expect the anti-shine control to last all day but it does perform better than most and when out in the sun make sure you re-apply.

It just so happens that when I first started using the product we had some of the hottest days in the UK so far this year, a great way to test the SPF 30 – and you know what, it’s pretty good as long as you remember to re-apply if you’ve been sweating. I would definitely take this one with me on holiday as I hate the way sunscreens feel on my face and head and the shine they cause, with this product you get the benefit of the sun protection and the shine reduction (as long as you keep applying).

With regards to the evening of skin tone and the reduction of age spots, this is something I have just started to notice after several weeks using the product, I am sure the results will be more noticeable the more you use it. I can say I’ve have seen some improvement in the tone of my skin, I can happily say I have noticed an improvement in the age spots on my head and forehead. This is an unexpected result and one even my wife has noticed, so hats off to the guys behind this, great results.

This is what Matte For Men says the product offers

Our award-winning facial moisturizer for men now has a NEW / IMPROVED FORMULA AND SIZE! The ultimate non-sticky, anti-shine “5 in 1” daily moisturizer for your face, scalp, neck, and ears.

It is the only product that combines the most important attributes that men are looking for in a lotion: sun protection, superior moisturization, a noticeable reduction in skin shine, evening of skin tone, and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The 4 oz tube is easy to use and perfect for travel.

Final thoughts

Matte For Men really have created a superior product with their Complete Face Care Lotion, it’s easily one of the best, if not the best moisturiser I have tested for some time.

Like with many other brands they have big claims about their product but luckily they are backed up by the fact they actually do what they say. From start to finish I have been impressed with the results and I’m sure with continued use the results with be even better.

The only thing letting this product down for me is its availability in the UK, I understand that you can buy from the US site but shipping cost on top of an already higher priced moisturiser could be a put-off to some potential customers. I would say though, you pay for what you get with this product – there has obviously been some serious development and improvements made to its effectiveness and the results it gives, this should be enough for anyone to try this product, I will certainly be keeping this in my Top 5 as it is really going to take some beating.

  1. Hi Paul, thanks for thanks for your review. Came to your website thanks to having a cursory look of reviews of oreal men expert matte, and which I have been using for years, and and have the same conclusions as you. I have always had oily skin, and the oreal men expert results has been a godsend – especially at the end of the evening with friends who may have started the evening well but looking hot and bothered by the end… Just tried to buy the matte for men through your site link $48… With delivery $90..so not happening! suggest they use you as uk agent?! If so will happily take some from you. (also half/ semi-ginger skin(grandfather!) burn under a cloudy sky… Almost! 😀

    1. Hi Tim, thanks for the comment. I have been asking Matte for Men when they would be shipping to the UK, not had a reply back yet!
I know the team at Mantl are going to be opening a UK distribution channel soon, I would suggest keeping an eye on their social as I hear it’s going to be soon. They’re ahead of the game when it comes to skin care for the bald gents, esp their SPF 30 daily moisturiser. Check them out
