Does CBD Cure Hair Loss? Here’s What You Need To Know

CBD Oil

Over the years, we’ve seen a number of so-called hair loss cures touted on the World Wide Web.

From herbal remedies and surgical procedures to restorative shampoos and hair transplants, these proposed solutions for hair loss have created an industry worth around $1.5 billion across the globe.

While this may highlight the psychological impact of premature balding, it’s fair to surmise that these remedies do little but delay the progress of genetic hair loss.

But can the same be said for CBD oil? This is the latest substance being forwarded as a potential cure for premature hair loss.

In this post, we’ll explore this in detail, while asking how CBD oil can be effectively used by individuals who have begun to lose their hair.

Can CBD Oil Really Cure Hair Loss?

For those of you are unfamiliar with CBD, this is an entirely natural and organic cannabis compound that is extracted directly from hemp. A demonstrably safe and versatile compound, CBD is free from any of the psychoactive agents associated with fellow cannabis ingredient THC, which is responsible for getting you high.

CBD has recently emerged as an effective food supplement packed full of minerals and essential fatty acids.

These nutritional qualities have led some to believe that CBD oil could work as an effective hair loss solution, and one which may ultimately help to restore normal rates of follicle growth.

According to researchers at the University of Seville, the presence of Omega 3 and Omega 6 acids in CBD are crucial to optimal health, while these polyunsaturated substances also include excellent levels of linolenic and gamme linolenic acid (GLA).

Apparently, these acids help to sustain the maintenance of normal hair growth, while their impact is compounded by the fact that CBD is thought to be high in Vitamin E. Some studies suggest that this can help to restore damaged cells in the human body, while also thickening hair and balancing your hormones.

In simple terms, this means that CBD oil is capable of improving the condition of your hair, while also slowing the progression of male pattern baldness and alternative forms of genetic hair loss. It also has the capacity to overcome temporary hair loss that may have been triggered by a dietary deficiency.

However, it’s extremely unlikely to be used as a treatment for genetic hair loss, while there’s absolutely nothing to suggest that it can reverse the process of male pattern balding. This condition, which as we know causes the hair to thin in the vertex area from the crown to the hairline, is typically relentless and will follow a consistent sequence until you’re left completely bald.

Why CBD Oil Still Offers Value to Young Men who are Losing Their Hair

So, while CBD oil may not be considered as a cure for male pattern baldness, its natural qualities can help to improve the condition and the thickness of your hair for a sustained period of time.

CBD oil also offers a number of advantages that can improve your physical (and most importantly) mental well-being, helping those who are losing their hair prematurely to better cope with the psychological consequences such as stress & anxiety.

Young bald man

Make no mistake; embracing your hair loss with a confident and positive mindset is the only way to counter the impact of male pattern baldness, and taking CBD oil as a food supplement can definitely help you to achieve this. Here’s how:

#1 – CBD Oil can help to Counter Feelings of Anxiety

Despite being a cannabis compound, CBD is entirely free from the potentially harmful psychoactive agents. This is largely thanks to the process used to extract CBD oil from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant, as this helps to isolate various compounds (including THC) and optimise purity.

Interestingly, CBD has also been clinically proven to effectively counteract the psychoactive impact of THC, which is known to fully activate the receptors that it binds to. While CBD also interacts with receptors, it does not activate them and can effectively prevent agonists like THC from being impactful.

Further studies have delved further into the antagonistic properties of CBD, with some revealing that it can actively be used to counter anxiety. This includes various manifestations of the disorder, from social anxiety and OCD to post traumatic stress syndrome.

While clinical studies have yet to confirm exactly why CBD works in this way, initial trials have shown that the substance can help with the transmission of serotonin signals.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps to relay messages from one area of the brain to another, and it is thought to influence over 40 million cells related to mood, function, sleep and social behaviour.

An imbalance in Serotonin levels can therefore have a huge impact on the human mind, triggering feelings of anxiety and depression over time.

One clinical trial completed in Spain showed that the consumption of CBD enhances the transfer of 5-HT1A, which in turn has a rapid impact on serotonin and optimises the speed at which these signals are sent to the brain. This can help to sustain healthy brain function, tackling symptoms such as anxiety and theoretically helping individuals to cope with challenges such as premature hair loss.

#2 – CBD Oil can Reduce Various Types of Stress

On a similar note, CBD has also been proven to regulate the emotional response to trauma, and the symptoms of stress that can arise from this.

In the same way that the consumption of CBD oil can tackle anxiety, this substance is capable of minimising the stress receptors in the hippocampus and amygdala. These areas, which exist in the human brain, combine to process our senses and emotions in the mind, and when overstimulated they can leave people struggling to cope with the physical and mental impact of everyday events.

It’s also interesting to note that CBD may also be capable of reducing oxidative stress, which occurs when our bodies metabolise the oxygen that we breathe and proceed to produce energy from it. This also produces free radicals, which interact with our cell’s molecules and our core DNA.

The issue occurs when an excess of free radicals are produced, and this is now a major risk due to the toxic levels of pollution prevalent in the natural environment. This process can result in significant damage to your cells, and exacerbate feelings of negativity when you’re suffering from emotional stress.

Fortunately, studies have revealed that CBD Oil can act as an effective antioxidant thanks to its neuro-protective qualities, which minimise any potential cell damage and help you to cope with the emotional stress caused by hair loss.

#3 – CBD Oil Can also Improve your Quality of Sleep

If you’ve found yourself balding prematurely and are struggling to process the news, you could find that the quality and the pattern of your sleep is undermined.

This can contribute to a long-term cycle of anxiety and depression, particularly as the brain requires time and frequent rest to process powerful emotional experiences.

CBD oil can help with this, with one particular study on military veterans suggesting that the substance helped respondents to create effective coping mechanisms, reduce anxiety and enjoy a better quality of sleep.

More specifically, it was revealed that CBD can block particular memories or stressful experiences from recurring when you’re trying to sleep. It is also proven to reduce and optimise the levels of cortisol in the human body, which in turn reduces stress and leads to better quality sleep.

As we can see, CBD oil helps to optimise sleep by suppressing the impact of negative thoughts or emotions, while it also physically reduces cortisol levels and actively enhances the quality of your rest during stressful periods in your life.

Given the emotional impact of losing your hair prematurely, it therefore stands to reason that the consumption of CBD oil can play a pivotal role in helping individuals to cope with their circumstances by actively promoting a healthy cycle of sleep.

Our Final Thoughts

While it’s fair to say that CBD oil should in no way be considered as a potential treatment or cure for male pattern baldness, it’s consumption can help individuals to cope with premature hair loss.

Aside from temporarily boosting the thickness and condition of your hair, it can also help to create a more robust mental outlook by minimising anxiety, tackling stress and enhancing the quality of your sleep cycle. In short, it helps you to cope with the psychological impact of premature hair loss, improving the quality of your life in the process.

    1. Hi there – thanks for your comment. I am no medical expert so could I first ask if you have received medical advice, I’m not sure if what you’re taking is contributing to your hair loss, there might be other factors at play.

  6. I am also suffering from a premature baldness and I just started taking cbd oil with no THC. I am also using Shea Moisture with apple cider vinegar. So far my falling hair has significantly reduced.
